Couples
Counseling
We provide different levels of
couples support:
Individual Couples Session - Are you thinking about going to couples counseling, but your partner is unwilling to attend with you? No need to wait until your partner has a change of heart. You are an important part of the relationship that you are in. Any change you make or any insights you may realize —be it new behaviors, feelings, or attitudes—will directly impact the other person, POTENTIALLY prompting him or her to adjust to a new dynamic. When one person in a relationship “system” changes, the entire can shift. In fact, individual work is sometimes even recommended before couples counseling begins, so that each person begins to understand their own subjective emotional feelings and reactions. They learn what new behaviors they can employ to help facilitate solutions rather than perpetuating blame, defensiveness, and criticism.
Partner Couples Session - Couples counseling with your partner is extremely collaborative. “Picking sides” does not exist in the counseling session. Couples counseling with your partner requires a commitment to your work as a team, an ability to be open when looking at what you bring into the relationship (both positive and negative) without defensiveness, and a commitment to reasonably alter your own behaviors. If you and your partner are willing to begin this process and you are experiencing communication breakdowns, diminished sexual desire and activity level, replaying old arguments and resurrecting old hurts, resentment and contempt have replaced patience and love, one or both of you are having an affair, or something else, couples counseling with your partner is for you.
Pre-Marital Couples Session - While you’re planning your wedding, are you also preparing for your marriage? Pre-marital counseling is beneficial for engaged couples interested in tackling issues before they occur. During pre-marital counseling, couples are able to delve into issues such as communication, finances, sexual intimacy, spirituality, parenthood and more. During these sessions, both partners are given a platform to share their views and expectations. In addition, the counseling helps the partners develop effective strategies for discussing and resolving conflict. This is a perfect opportunity for partners to gain a better understanding on each other’s background, mindsets, and boundaries. Couples with premarital education reported higher levels of marital satisfaction and experienced a 30 percent decline in the likelihood of divorce over five years.

You don’t have to remain stuck in those rough areas of your relationship. Having hard conversations that lead to resolutions and clarity is the key and whether you are married or engaged, couples counseling may be a great fit for you.
This is for you if you have one or more of the following areas to conquer:
Communication Issues - Of all the issues you may have in a relationship, the breakdown of communication is one of the most serious. Many couples end up having avoidable relationship problems even when their hearts are in the right place. These communication issues in relationships are easy to fall into and can destroy your connection with your partner if you are not careful.
Relationship Maintenance - People engage in relationship maintenance behaviors to keep their relationships stable. Relational maintenance can help to identify behaviors that help partners keep their relationships in a desired state.
Partner Infidelity - Infidelity is the breaking of a promise to remain faithful to a sexual partner, whether that promise was made as part of marriage vows or privately uttered agreements between lovers. Relationships require ongoing work, but for a couple facing the fallout from an affair, the challenge can feel insurmountable and overwhelming. There is hope!
Trust Problems - Trust issues refer to having had some sort of transgression in the relationship about something very central where one person feels they cannot believe their partner. An example might be a sexual affair with another person or a strong emotional entanglement with another person.

“I have a passion for working with individuals who need nonjudgmental support and encouragement to work through past trauma and current barriers to achieve their goals; women and children, and first responders, such as doctors, nurses, social workers and teachers in particular. Equally important to me is dispelling the negative connotation associated with mental health care within communities of color and amongst youth. We all need someone to talk to at some point in our lives. It is my desire to be a change agent and do my part to make this world a better place.”
